Works committee information on the 9 April 2014 meeting

On Friday, April 9, 2014, a works committee meeting was held to follow up on the Aluminium Pechiney works committee meeting of April 8 on a project to transform the Dunkirk plant organisation.

Discussions concerning the information-consultation procedure were the same as those discussed at the Aluminium Pechiney committee (see AP News Flash).

The aim of this project is to make Aluminium Dunkerque the most competitive aluminium producer in Europe and to secure its future in the coming years.

To this end, the site has set itself 6 objectives which we will achieve with a commitment by all involved:

  • Commit every employee to contribute to the plant’s performance through their skills and capacity for initiative,
  • Create value for our customers through our product and service quality,
  • Have a reliable industrial facility with controlled costs to ensure its self-financing,
  • Have a competitive energy supply,
  • Respect our environment by sustainably complying with regulatory requirements,
  • Improve our technology to anticipate our customers’ needs.

To achieve these objectives, senior management has decided to work on the following areas of progress:

  • Reorganise the departments and activities,
  • Concentrate on core business activities, outsourcing where necessary,
  • Optimise time resources: improve workplace productivity, reduce absenteeism and limit the use of temporary staff.
  • Develop individual and collective skills.

Aluminium Pechiney has therefore decided to implement organisational transformation projects which will have an impact on 65 jobs at Aluminium Dunkerque.
Senior management has decided to carry out this reorganisation solely by means of a voluntary departure scheme without any lay-offs.

The projects will be rolled out between now and the end of April 2015, once the information/consultation procedure has been completed. They will take place in all sectors of the plant: Carbon, Electrolysis, Foundry, Maintenance and Central Services.

Senior management will ensure that the skills needed to run the company smoothly are maintained, and that the resources needed to achieve that are appropriate, particularly in terms of training and maintaining working conditions.

Senior management is aware that this transformation will bring about many changes. A change management programme will be implemented to address any psychosocial risks.

As of today, the Senior management team will be meeting with you to answer your questions.

You can also submit your questions to your N+1. Senior management undertakes to answer them every week. A notice will be posted in your sector.
